Parents Name Baby "Like" in Honor of Facebook Button

Lior and Vardit Adler, an Israeli couple, proved how much they like Facebook by naming their baby daughter Like after the ubiquitous button averaged over 65 million clicks a day. According to the parents, the name represents the age of social networking and is tied to that milestone, much like other names are tied to religious events and people.

Although very unique, the Adler's name isn't the first to be influenced by the social networking giant. In February, an Egyptian man named Jamal Ibrahim bluntly named his daughter "Facebook" in honor of the role the social media site played in Egypt's revolution in January. Earlier in the month, Facebook and Twitter were used to organize protesters in Tahrir Square.

In possibly the most bizarre Facebook-induced naming story, a man promised to name his son "Batman" if he could get 500,000 people to become fans on his Facebook page. The admin of the page told his "fans" to give their e-mails so that he could send pictures of the child's birth certificate. The page currently has nearly 964,000 likes, but no word on if he went through with the promise.

Mexico town's mutant pointy boots create a craze

The customer known only as "Cesar of Huizache" had an odd request for shoemaker Dario Calderon: He showed him a cell-phone photo of a sequined cowboy boot with pointy toes so long, they curled up toward the knees. He wanted a pair, but with longer toes.

The next thing Calderon knew, it seemed like everyone wanted the bizarre, half-Aladdin, all-Vegas pointy boots, from little boys attending church ceremonies to teenagers at the discos. (AP)
